let’s get a burger!

today we laid our instruments down and went to Pie ‘n Burger in pasadena and enjoyed the simple gorgeous pleasure of the best burger in the world. i’ve had enough of complexity for the moment, i have many conflicting feelings right now, as a week later, we are up to over 700,000 views on youtube. the debate that has bubbled up (no pun intended) is a healthy albeit troubling one rife with opinions from all points on the gender spectrum. also i am coming to terms with the fact that as much as i would like to only sing and write songs all day, it’s not enough communication to make a dent in the consciousness of our times. i love communicating in conversation (especially over burgers) and in song. i understand that to make connections between my world and others’ out there, i need to show up on other blogs and communicate. that is what i should i be doing now instead of chewing.

Actually- it’s a comment on your previous posts- just can’t figure out how to maneuver through (got trapped in one of the links on your site). Anyways…
People can be so hateful… and I’m sorry you folks are the victims. Any time someone asserts something that calls for fairness, equality, justice… there are going to be those that will defend the status quo and fight it in all their ignorant glory (gore?). I am always knocked over by the level of tension that exists between men and women in this culture- and this is supposed to be better than it is anywhere else in the world.
- You have done a really fantastic thing- you did something to help women find their voice. You did it in a creative, genius way- and it speaks to most everyone. There are women out there who see this, and are strengthened, enlivened, to have an opinion and express it. How many young women are not going to be abused, intimidated, bullied into silence, because they saw your video? Hopefully more people will do these things when they see you won’t be intimidated- surround yourself with good people.
- Do not read the comments on YouTube- have someone else do it- there has to be someone who isn’t sensitive, and edit out the crap until YouTube places some controls (like Craigslist has been doing- I don’t know if it’s working). Look at all the positive comments- they are heartfelt. Reading those comments just drains
- Do not explain your lyrics- it won’t make any difference, and it will take away any creative energy and hope you have to do more… you’re giving ‘them’ power… they speak for themselves, and anyone who doesn’t get them can ask their girlfriends/mothers/grandmothers.
You are in the moral highground! Don’t let anyone knock you down.

thank you so much! the reaction was intimidating at first but ultimately served to light a fire under us so we will forge on in a big way! The low moral character (of more than likely 15 year old boys) revealed on youtube is so disturbing. Please pass this on to all your friends. If we can do anything to boost confidence in all women – though “Its a Woman Thang” was meant to encourage BOTH genders to stand up for themselves – we will have done our job.

Forgot to ask you, lookingforward, can you describe how you had trouble maneuvering through the posts and how you got trapped in one of the links on the site? Especially as we’re going to start writing and recording our new song, Boom Boom, as well as make the video on a day by day basis online I want to make sure all the interface kinks are ironed out. Thanks.

Hi Bubbles, Cheesecake;
I’ve been “out of touch” for three weeks and completely missed what was happening on YouTube. I know the negative comments are difficult. Maybe you could use this as “fodder” for another song. Turn it around and ‘show them the mirror’.
I’m glad you’ve been getting lots of exposure, though. They say any publicity is good publicity. Even if the debate isn’t what you expected or wanted, I’m sure it’s leading to more “views”, and at least some of those viewers are benefiting from watching the video and taking the message to heart. I’m sure it’s only the idiots that don’t “get it”. I “got it” the first time I heard it, and was very excited to hear it. LOL
Big Hugs and Kisses! XOXOXO!

The YouTube comments were baffling, but sadly not surprising; anybody who gets featured on YouTube is automatically barraged with crazy-talk, as far as I can see. Maybe it’s because, in a forum full of so many people, they think the only way they can stand out is by saying something shocking.
I’m sure you’re right that it goes deeper than that, though perhaps not as deep as it seems. Many of them think they’re being funny, or controversial, or interesting…and when did you last meet a socially-disturbed, anonymous person (ie the type who identify their self-worth by the amount of attention they can get in a forum) who knew how to stand out in a POSITIVE way?
Then there ARE the nutty ones. A small minority, I hope. I’ve always been conflicted about free speech vs. safety myself (when do “words” become “a call to action?”). Online social networking is expanding at a colossal rate, but human social skills are still in the dark ages.
In any case, you reached a lot of people! Your hard work has paid off in that sense. Everybody deserves a great meal after doing so much stuff!
